MISD Announces Standard Dress Policy Changes
Resumen de la política de ropa escolar estándar del 2010-2011

The Board of Trustees recently approved updates to the standard dress policy for middle and high school students. These updates are intended to give students increased leeway to express personal style in their accessories, while still maintaining the core look of standard dress. Parents of middle school and high school students need to be aware of the following changes:

  • Belts may be any color or pattern, as long as they are leather-like dress-style or canvas worn properly with an approved buckle.
  • Shoes and boots may now be any color or pattern. Loafers, tennis shoes, mules, slides, and open-toed sandals with a back strap are all acceptable footwear (flip flops are not allowed in the standard dress policy).
  • Socks may be any solid color, as long as they are a matching pair.
REMINDER: Please note that the following expectations for standard dress will still be enforced:
  • Standard dress-approved pants must be worn at the waist (no sagging will be permitted).
  • Shirts must be worn tucked in with a belt.
  • All clothing must be correctly sized. Oversized or too-tight clothing will not be permitted.
  • Blue-jean style khaki pants or pants that are tight at the knees and ankles will not be permitted.
Click here to review the entire standard dress policy, or refer to the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct (to be distributed at the beginning of the school year).

Dig Deeper with the MISD A.L.I.V.E. Program
Now Enrolling for 2010-11!
Whether you have children in the school system or not, MISD is an integral part the Mesquite community and directly impacts you and your tax dollars. The Active Leaders Inspired by a Vision of Excellence (A.L.I.V.E.) program gives you an opportunity to study the internal operations of MISD up close. Over the course of a school year, you will meet with administrators and school board members, covering a variety of topics from curriculum and testing to personnel and budget. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to pose questions to the decision-makers of Mesquite ISD.

The program consists of nine sessions held once a month from September through May at locations all over the school district – including administration buildings, schools, bus barns and stadiums.

More than just a “sit and listen” program, the jam-packed sessions include tours; interaction with students, teachers, and administrators; and a lot of in-depth discussion. Sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. (breakfast provided at 8 a.m.) and usually last until around 11 a.m. For this small monthly time commitment, you will be rewarded with a wealth of knowledge about MISD. And you are guaranteed to not only have your personal questions answered but also to gain answers to the questions you never thought to ask.

MISD is now enrolling for its 2010-11 A.L.I.V.E. class! Click here to complete our online enrollment form, or call Laura Jobe at 972-882-7406. Please note, the first A.L.I.V.E. session of the 2010-11 school year will meet in September.
