Dallas College Teacher Pathway

Program Overview

Dallas College offers aspiring teachers the opportunity to begin their college education and work toward a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Teaching. PACE (Pathway to Teacher Certification)

Program Overview

PACE is Mesquite ISD's Grow Your Own program that helps current employees become certified teachers while completing their bachelor's degree. Through a combination of college coursework, professional training and classroom experience, participants work toward becoming certified educators.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be currently employed by Mesquite ISD.

• Have completed at least 50 college credit hours.

• Complete the program's application and selection process.

Program Benefits

• No program cost to participating employees.

• Opportunity to transition into a paid PACE Instructor position while completing degree requirements, subject to training completion and selection for an available vacancy.

• Structured coursework and professional learning through university and certification partners.

• A pathway to earning a bachelor's degree and teacher certification.

Getting Started

Applications open in November and close in January. Applicants complete an application, participate in a virtual interview and provide recommendations from their principal, supervisor or supervisory teacher, and a colleague.

Selected participants are typically notified in early February. The pathway takes approximately 2½ years to complete a bachelor's degree, followed by an additional year for teacher certification.

Pride Pathway (East Texas A&M University)

Program Overview

Pride Pathway at East Texas A&M University offers a flexible, online route for aspiring teachers to complete a bachelor's degree and work toward teacher certification. The competency-based program allows students to progress through coursework at their own pace while balancing work and other commitments.

Eligibility

This pathway is designed for individuals who:

• Have completed college coursework but have not yet earned a bachelor's degree.
• Want to pursue a teaching career.
• Meet East Texas A&M University's admission requirements.

• 100% online coursework with flexible, self-paced learning.
• Accelerated seven-week terms that allow students to progress as they demonstrate mastery.

Program Overview

TEEMM provides education majors with hands-on classroom experience in Mesquite ISD as part of their teacher preparation program. Through clinical teaching, student teaching, or teacher residency, participants gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced educators as they prepare for their teaching careers.

This pathway is designed for individuals who:

• Are currently enrolled in an education major or approved educator preparation program.
• Need supervised classroom experience as part of their preparation to become certified teachers.
• Meet their college or university's requirements for clinical teaching, student teaching or residency.

Alternative Teacher Certification

Program Overview

Alternative certification provides a pathway to becoming a certified teacher for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree, including those whose degrees are in fields outside of education. Through an approved educator preparation program, candidates can complete the training and requirements needed to earn a Texas teaching certificate.

Eligibility

This pathway is designed for individuals who:

• Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Are interested in becoming certified to teach in Texas.
• Meet the admission requirements of an approved alternative certification program.
