Open enrollment gives families outside Mesquite ISD the opportunity to choose a district that puts students first. Apply for a transfer and discover meaningful learning experiences, leadership opportunities, and a culture of Excellence Always.

In Mesquite ISD, your child will be met by passionate educators who hold high expectations and believe every student is made to excel, creating a culture where achievement and belonging go hand in hand. Across the district, students have access to meaningful learning experiences and leadership opportunities that set Mesquite ISD apart, helping them grow with confidence and prepare for success in college, career, and life.

MISD is currently accepting out-of-district transfer applications for the 2026–27 school year for grades K–12. As part of the transfer consideration process, each student’s attendance, discipline, and academic records will be reviewed to ensure they are ready for success in our schools. Seats are limited, and approvals will be based on instructional space and staffing at each campus.

En Mesquite ISD, su hijo será recibido por educadores apasionados que mantienen altas expectativas, creen que cada estudiante está hecho para sobresalir y fomentan una cultura en la que el éxito y el sentido de pertenencia van de la mano. Actualmente, MISD está aceptando solicitudes de transferencia de fuera del distrito para el año escolar 2026–27 para los grados K–12. Como parte del proceso de consideración de transferencias, se revisarán la asistencia, la disciplina y el historial académico de cada estudiante para asegurar que estén preparados para tener éxito en nuestras escuelas. Los espacios son limitados y las aprobaciones se basarán en la disponibilidad de espacio educativo y de personal en cada campus.

  • To be considered for transfer, the student's attendance, disciplinary, and academic records will be reviewed.
  • Mesquite ISD does not provide transportation to and from school for students who are approved for an out-of-district transfer. Transfer students must be dropped off and picked up on time. 
  • All UIL rules regarding student eligibility for competition will be followed. Approval for an out-of-district transfer does not verify the student’s eligibility for competition under UIL rules. Students in athletics who move from one high school to another are ineligible for varsity competition for one year by UIL guidelines unless the UIL grants a residency waiver. Students may not transfer for athletic purposes.
  • Only students in grades K-12 are eligible to request a transfer.
  • Transfer requests must be submitted and approved annually.

Families will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance of their application via email. Once records from the student’s current district have been received and reviewed for approval, Mesquite ISD will make every effort to provide notification before the end of the 2025–26 school year. If approved, the communication will specify the next steps and the campus your student has been approved to attend. Campus assignments cannot be changed. 

There is no appeal process for Out-of-District Transfer Denials

All out-of-district transfer students must reapply and qualify annually. The parent/guardian will be notified when it is time to renew their transfer application for the following year.
