Class of 2026

Ryan Gilmore has been holding a pencil for as long as he can remember. With a father who teaches art, creativity was always close by. But it was not until high school that Ryan began to see art as more than a hobby. “I didn’t think of art as a career until I got here,” he says. At Mesquite High School, with guidance from mentors like Mr. Bingham and opportunities through multiple art programs, his passion started to take shape.

Now, Ryan is preparing to attend SMU to study fine art, graphic design, and architecture. He dreams of seeing his work in galleries and creating spaces that reflect beauty and meaning.

For Ryan, the journey has been about more than developing skills. Art helped him become more of who he is. “I found my voice when I stopped caring about what people think and just did what I liked,” he shares.

MHS gave him the space to explore, to try new things, and to learn through experience. “There is so much offered here. You would regret not trying things,” he says. And as he looks ahead, he knows that success is not about following a straight line. It is about staying true to your passion and pursuing what brings joy.

With focus, faith, and creativity, he is ready to shape a future that reflects all he has to offer. His path is not just about art. It is about purpose. And as he reminds himself, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
