Mesquite Reads

Did you know that kids who don’t read over the summer are more likely to be behind when they return to school? This is often called the “summer slide,” and Mesquite ISD has prioritized keeping our students’ skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long.

MISD has developed Mesquite Reads, a summer reading initiative that asks all students (Pre-K-12) in MISD to read an average of 30 pages a day this summer and log the pages they’ve read. There are no required reading lists. Just find a book, magazine, or website you like and read! Along with reading 30 minutes a day, students can participate in the Mesquite Reads Summer Reading Challenge, a free online game that invites our students to log their reading pages all summer.

Read Squared button with a green r and red 2Read Squared is a program provided by Mesquite ISD Library Services that students & staff use to record the pages they've read.

Library Share Cards

We are excited to partner with our public libraries in Mesquite and Balch Springs to provide a public library card to every student in our district. Students of MISD will be allowed to check out books from the Balch Springs Library and the Mesquite Public Library.
