Emerging Leaders

Mesquite ISD Emerging Leaders, our student leadership initiative, started with our inaugural cohort in 2021-22.  With chapters at each of our six high schools. In the program’s first year, over 300 students participated in after-school meetings, service projects, community outreach, and school visits. Our students in 10th – 12th grades also have the opportunity to enroll in an elective course designed to advance their leadership development. 
In 2025, we launched Junior Emerging Leaders for our sixth- to eighth-graders, and will soon expand our student leadership for all grade levels.  
Elementary students are encouraged to participate in Ron Clark’s “Amazing Shake” competition aimed at developing the professional skills for the next generation of leaders.
LET will continue to examine district practices, activities and programs for additional opportunities to empower young leaders.
