Class of 2025
For Josue Moreno, it all started with a World Cup game in 2014. Sitting on the living room floor surrounded by family, he picked Germany as his team. When they won, something inside him shifted. At just seven years old, Josue began chasing the ball and, without realizing it, started chasing a future filled with passion and possibility.
At Mesquite High School, the game shaped him, but so did the people around him. His coaches and teachers believed in him and saw a leader in the making. Head Coach Philip El Aya saw more than natural ability. He saw potential. “I never saw myself going to college for sports,” Josue says. “But my coach did.”
That belief made a difference. By his junior year, Josue had earned the role of team captain. In that moment, everything changed again. He was no longer just playing the game he loves. He was leading. He was showing younger players what dedication looks like. He was setting the tone.
Even after the thrill of competing in the 2025 6A State Championship, Josue knows the scoreboard is not what defines him. He plays for more than wins on the field. He plays for his parents, who made sacrifices, for his teammates, who became like brothers, and for the younger students watching from the sidelines, who are still figuring out what is possible.
Josue will attend Mountain View College to study engineering while continuing to pursue his passion for the game. His dreams include building a life rooted in stability, strength, and service. One day, he hopes to own property, raise horses, and create a space that represents who he is and where he comes from.
Josue Moreno is a quiet force. He is a leader who understands that success comes not only from talent but also from trust, hard work, and belief in the journey. He is building a future rooted in purpose, and the path ahead is full of promise.
