Class of 2026

Alan Diaz always imagined a future in medicine. At an early age, he was drawn to the precision of surgery and the idea of healing others through care and skill. But as he grew, that calling became clearer. He realized that the ones he most wanted to help were those without a voice—animals. Whether it was comforting a stray on his walk home or volunteering at the Mesquite animal shelter, Alan felt a quiet responsibility for the lives in his care.

His journey through high school was marked by its share of learning curves. He admits that, at first, his focus was more on having fun than on the future. That changed during his sophomore year, when teachers began to notice his potential and encouraged him to take his goals seriously. With their support, Alan began to see himself in a different light. He grew more committed to his academics and more intentional about his future. At home, he became a role model for his younger siblings, leading not through words but through steady action. He now understands that success is not measured by popularity but by purpose.

Through the veterinary science program at North Mesquite High School, Alan’s passion began to take shape. Internships at local clinics offered real-world experience, but one moment in particular stands out to him. During a summer program, he administered his first vaccine to a small kitten. That quiet moment confirmed everything he had felt. This was where he belonged.

Alan dreams of becoming a traveling veterinarian, bringing compassion and medical care to animals across underserved communities. He wants to make his family proud, but more than that, he wants to make a difference. With heart, skill, and a steady sense of purpose, he is determined to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Alan Diaz represents what happens when students are believed in, supported, and given the chance to pursue their dreams.
