Class of 2025

At an early age, Alejandro Rivas felt a strong calling to serve. Inspired by the strength and sacrifice of his parents, he knew he wanted to follow their example. However, it was not until his junior year, after transferring to Mesquite ISD and joining the JROTC program at Vanguard High School, that Alejandro truly discovered the leader within himself.

The structure of military training, the weight of responsibility, and the challenge to rise above expectations pushed him further than he ever imagined. Once a quiet freshman with long hair and uncertain goals, Alejandro now serves as a confident company commander. He leads with integrity and compassion, caring deeply for the younger cadets who look up to him. “Being part of JROTC taught me that leadership is hard,” he shares. “But it is worth it, because others are counting on you.”

Under his command, Alpha Company achieved a historic milestone. For the first time in Vanguard’s history, the unit earned top honors at the annual awards banquet. It was a moment that reflected not just Alejandro’s leadership, but his resilience and his belief in others.

Through every challenge, Alejandro has remained grounded in what matters most. His family. His fellow cadets. And the students are learning by watching him. “You cannot give up,” he says. “Because if you do, others might think they can give up too.”

Alejandro will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he plans to pursue a degree in biology and embark on his path toward becoming a physician. His goal is to combine a deep love for science with a lifelong commitment to serve others. With unwavering courage, strong discipline, and a clear sense of purpose, Alejandro is building a future rooted in excellence.
