Elaine Hornsby Announces Retirement and Resignation from Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees

Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees member Elaine Hornsby announced her resignation from the Board during a Special Board meeting on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as she prepares to retire following nearly five decades of service in public education. Hornsby will continue to serve on the Board through the end of the school year, including graduation, to support a smooth transition.
A special election for Place 6 will be held on May 2, 2026, concurrent with the regular election for Places 3, 4, and 5. The newly elected trustee for Place 6 will be sworn in and assume duties at the June 8, 2026, Regular Board meeting.
Elected to the Board in May 2015, Hornsby is a graduate of Mesquite High School whose 49 years of service in public education include 38 years as an educator and administrator in Mesquite ISD, as well as 11 years on the Board of Trustees. Although she officially retired from the district in 2011, Hornsby continued her lifelong commitment to public education through her service as an elected official.
During her 11 years on the Board, Hornsby was a consistent advocate for students and staff, bringing decades of educational experience to district leadership and decision-making, supporting investments in facilities, safety, and educational opportunities for students across the district.
The Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Ángel Rivera extend their sincere appreciation to Ms. Hornsby for her legacy of leadership, service, and dedication to the students, staff, and community of Mesquite ISD.
