64 AP Scholars and More Recognized at September Board Meeting
Student and staff recognitions resumed at the September Board Meeting as we celebrated educators, community leaders and students for their recent achievements.
The evening began with the prestigious Apple Corps program, recognizing this month’s honorees, Amie Osborne of Moss Elementary School and Silvia Friedman of Galloway Elementary School, both longtime Mesquite ISD educators. The district also recognized Nicole Smith of John Horn High School as the September Star Para.
Three Mesquite ISD educators reached the highest level of the ETIP (Excellence in Teaching Incentive program), District Scholar. Their achievement reflects a continued commitment to professional growth and excellence in education. Congratulations to the following:
- Renee Mitchell, Cross Elementary School - Doctorate Conferred
- Yesenia Dominguez Lopez, Rutherford Elementary School - Doctorate Conferred
- Diana Brown, Vanston Middle School - Doctorate Conferred
This month’s Community Partner is SinFul Treats, recognized for their generous support of MISD students. During the summer, SinFul Treats provided a month-long baking enrichment program at no cost to MISD families, giving nearly 30 elementary students the opportunity to learn new baking skills and enjoy an enriching summer experience.
The recognitions concluded by celebrating student leadership and academic achievements. Antonio Rivas earned first place in the Knowledge Competition at the 2026 Summer Leadership Experience (SLE) at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. Additionally, 64 students were celebrated for earning AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar with Distinction or AP Capstone Diploma honors for their accomplishments in the Advanced Placement (AP) program.
