The next chapter of Mesquite High School is taking shape. The proposed design connects buildings, improves the main entrance experience, and creates brighter spaces that support students throughout the day.

The design centers on a “Braided Campus” concept that connects the school’s history with its next chapter. A new, recognizable main entry will improve visibility and wayfinding while placing the administration suite directly at the front door to strengthen campus security.

Plans expand fine arts spaces, incorporate a code-compliant storm shelter, improve accessibility, and connect campus buildings through a clear interior spine. The design also improves visual connections to career and technical education and athletic facilities located across Davis Street.

 

Responsible planning, visible impact

The Mesquite High project began with a close review of campus challenges, including security, accessibility, disconnected buildings, undersized fine arts spaces, and difficult building circulation. Each proposed improvement directly addresses those priorities.

The plan balances 44,600 square feet of targeted new construction with 30,400 square feet of renovation. This approach preserves useful parts of the campus while directing new construction to improvements that strengthen safety, accessibility, and the student experience.

The current project schedule will continue in the construction document development phase through January 2027, followed by bidding and permitting. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in May 2027 and be completed by August 2029.

Designed for students and the future

From a safer main entrance and storm shelter to expanded fine arts facilities and brighter common spaces, the proposed improvements will serve today’s Skeeters while preparing the campus for the years ahead. Mesquite ISD will continue sharing updates as plans move forward.
